Verb Tense Handouts

present continuous tense handout

For much of my career, I’ve pulled handouts and other reference tools from various sources on the internet. I was always careful to be sure I credited my source, thereby providing a good example for my students in regards to not plagiarising, but

ultimately, the resources were not my own. Most of the time, these reference charts do not disappear, but occasionally, I’d discover the original author had taken something down or changed a link, meaning I had to find a new resource. The other thing I sometimes found frustrating was finding references, especially grammar references, that were simple and straightforward. Charts my students could easily understand, and that didn’t include a lot of “cutesy” clipart that would be off-putting to my adult students.

A year or so ago, I decided it was time to start creating my own reference tools for students and began with the verb tenses. My goal was to create a one-page reference sheet for the format of the simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous forms of the present, past, and future tenses. The process was both easier and more complex than I expected, but the result is twelve one-page, no-frills reference sheets that I can use without having to worry they might disappear or have their link changed.

Today, I’m happy to share them with all of you. You can download them below or use the link to get them from Teachers Pay Teachers (still free). If you’re looking for fun games to practice various verb tenses, I’ll also link to some of those. Happy teaching, everyone!
